The Champion System p/b Stan’s NoTubes/CRCA cycling team and Transportation Alternatives have created and are distributing a Pro-Pedestrian Street Code. The aim of the code is to educate cyclists about the proper use of shared roadways.
It contains seven directives: Always yield to pedestrians; claim a lane and do not ride on the sidewalk; ride in the same direction as motor vehicle traffic; stop at red lights; and stay clear of crosswalks. The code also states that one will ride in a manner that is predictable to drivers and does not hamper the progress of faster-moving traffic. More information can be found at the Champion Systems p/b Stan’s NoTubes website.
The CRCA is helping to publicize this code, not as a requirement for all sub-teams (nor the club as a whole), but as an example of how one sub-team is working to be a good citizen in a city with many users. Other teams and rides are urged to consider ways they can encourage good relations with pedestrians, motorists and other users of roadways in our busy city.
