flanders_flyerNEW YORK, NY March 27, 2009 – Suffering… glory… determination… moules frites and Duvel! On Sunday, April 5th at 5PM, come out to support the CRCA Junior Development Program and enjoy the company of fellow members of the NYC cycling community as we watch the Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) at BXL Café on west 43rd (b/t 6th and Broadway). Belgian beer will flow, prizes will be raffled, and great Spring Classic racing will be on the TV as CJ and Jed bring you a great party for a worthy cause.

Party hosts Christophe Jammet and Jed Kornbluh hatched this plan while putting together their last event, StatenCX, back in November 2008. Wondering where in the city the Ronde would be shown, they decided to host a party of their own and tempt the cycling community with great food, beer, and raffle prizes from an array of sponsors. This includes a 57cm Schwinn CX Bike! Jammet, a local CRCA member and “Q” list celebrity said, “Fostering juniors racing is one of the most important things we can do. They get a chance to excel at a sport they love in a supportive way, without the hefty financial burden that can make this sport prohibitive for many.” Kornbluh feels the same, stating, “When I started out as a junior, it was difficult to get rides or supportive senior teammates to help arrange travel to races. This program, under the guidance of CRCA’s Ken Harris, is an incredible asset to our younger members and I’m proud to do my part as a club member.”

The event begins at 5PM and will run until the end of the broadcast at 7PM. Offers for the night will include drink specials, courtesy of BXL and other event sponsors, a steady steam of prize raffles, as well as pre-recorded coverage of the Ronde van Vlaanderen. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 throughout the event and all money raised will go directly to the CRCA Junior Development Program. Wafels and Dinges will be parked outside of BXL Café, offering a “Special Ronde Edition” waffle for guests to enjoy.

Presenting partners for this event include: Bicycling Magazine, Visit Flanders, Rapha, and BXL Café, CX Magazine, and Schwinn.

Raffle prize sponsors for this event include: NYC Velo, Rapha, Echappe Equipment, David Jordan Coaching, Velo Classic Tours, and Bell’s Bikes (Philadelphia)
