CRCA members and friends cheered in New York as they watched Evelyn Stevens take the lead in the Women’s World Championship Road Race.
Evelyn Stevens capped off an unbelievable season with a 15th place finish in the Women’s World Championship road race. Evie spent much of the race on the front pulling back breaks and forcing the pace to weaken the field for Kristen Armstrong. Kristen ended up in fourth, shy of a medal but the best American performance in 15 years. Evie finished with the chase group of 10 which took places 5 through 15, all riders getting the same time.
Evie had a great Spring, winning all of the major regional races, Battenkill, Jiminy Peak and Bear Mountain. To leap from regional racing to winning NRC stage races, to placing in UCI races to the World Championships is a vast jump. Evie’s quick rise in just five months is unprecedented. Only a year ago, she won the Green Mountain Stage Race Women;s Cat 3/4 division.
The CRCA party to watch the race drew a good sized crowd and cheers echoed through The Parlour whenever Evie went to the front. With all of the work she did, there was a lot of cheering.
