On April 21 BrittLee Bowman of the Innervation Fitness/Stan’s NoTubes Women’s Racing Team won the first race of the 2012 CRCA Women’s Development 3/4 Series Presented by Bike Doctor NYC. We interviewed her on the race and her goals for the season.
What did you aim for in today’s race?
Our team was aiming for the podium in this race, so we were quite happy to take 1st, 3rd,4th and 7th.
How did the race move, from your perspective?
This race was pretty active. There were attacks, there were counter attacks, the pace was good. It was fun having the field limited to cat3s and 4s, it made for a different race than usual. Although I feel like the CRCA teams still dominated, it was great to have the non-club women mixed in, adding to the unpredictability of the race.
Are there any particular things that you’ve done this season to get set for races like this?
A million laps in central park?
In truth, after I went to Cyclocross Nationals in January, I took about 2 weeks off and then got back into training for road. Our team does gym workouts in the offseason and rides over the bridge on weekends. On weekdays I find myself getting dizzy with loops in Central Park.
A work trip to China messed with my Battenkill performance, but I guess I got over the jet-lag and plane-legs just in time for this race.
What are you focusing on as the season moves forward?
I am focused on racing well with my teammates and continuing to help each other progress. Personally, I would love to earn my cat2 upgrade this season.
I really appreciate that you guys have put together this race series and the other support programs specifically for women. Thank you.
